And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…
Romans 12:2 (NKJV, emphasis mine)
Ever feel the weight of your thoughts? Or been tormented by those things you just can’t seem to get out of your head?
That was me for a long time.
But the Word gives us an important key for how we can stay on track and keep our thoughts under control so they don’t control us.
Renewing Your Mind
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.
3 John 1:2 (NKJV, emphasis mine)
We’re 3-part beings (just like God) made up of a body, a soul, and a spirit (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Obviously, you know what your body is, so I won’t explain that. Your spirit, just like the Holy Spirit that attaches to it, is the portion of you that’s eternal–the part that Jesus made perfect through His death and resurrection. Your soul then is the piece in the middle. It’s your mind, will, and emotions.
The cool thing is that our souls act as a sort of valve between the spiritual and the physical. When we’re born again, our spirits are perfect and aligned with God immediately. Our souls, however, often take some convincing. But when we do align our minds, wills, and emotions with what God says (what our spirits know is true) that’s when we start to see change on the outside. When we align our minds with what God says is true, that's when we start to see positive change within ourselves.Click To Tweet
That’s why renewing our minds is so important!
30-Day Soul Detox Challenge
THAT’S why I created this challenge.
Sometimes it can be hard to know where to start or to even know which areas of our minds are out of alignment. I felt led to create something that would walk you through the process of weeding out lies (and all that extra mental baggage) and replacing them with the truth of God’s Word.
And it’s officially been released!
Don’t miss out on this challenge! It’s completely free and is going to help you incredibly. So why not? To participate and get your challenge journal sent to your inbox, click the button below!
The Simplicity of the Gospel
But truly, it’s not rocket science. Some of the steps may seem simple. Some of the action assignments that I give you may make you think, “how will that change anything?” Or “is it really that easy?”
But that’s the gospel.
I’ll share a little story about yours truly. My husband and I were invited to sing at a conference in Alaska last year. We live on the eastern side of the US, so that was a long ways away from home. And obviously we couldn’t drive there. We were going to have to fly.
My only other experience with a plane (when I was a teenager) was TERRIBLE. Straight up awful (for me anyway, but I was a teensy bit dramatic). There was so much turbulence. I was sweating, squeezing my friends’ hands (like that would somehow help if we started to fall out of the sky), and shaking. Truly, I was terrified.
So I was NOT looking forward to this flight to Alaska.
The day came. We boarded the plane. And as soon as we sat down in our seats, I was already sweating. I had that yucky anxious feeling in my gut. And we were going to be flying ALL DAY. Not on the same flight. We’d be switching. But still.
The plane began to move on the tarmac, and my heart started pounding in my chest. Once it actually lifted off, it basically felt like my entire stomach was in my throat. But then a song came to me.
I’m no longer a slave to fear
I am a child of God
I started singing it quietly to myself, and by the time we were up in the air, I wasn’t afraid anymore. All of it had left my body, and I just remember feeling like a little kid, holding my Dad’s hand while He took me to work and showed me His special projects or something. I was looking down on God’s creation and going, “wow, Dad look what you did!” Everything was so beautiful from above, and I actually ended up enjoying flying.
That was such a simple thing! I sang a song. But it was a song that was in opposition to thoughts that I didn’t need to hold onto. Fear isn’t something God gave to me. (But we’ll talk about that more in Challenge #7!)
This is just a simple example, but the same method works with deeper issues too.
That’s what these challenges are meant to do. It’s as simple as targeting an area of our lives that’s not lining up with what God says and speaking against it.
I thought about telling you all the challenges right here. I really did. BUT! I’m actually going to make you wait. Go subscribe NOW to get this 30-day soul detox challenge!
